Koomol

Third Day approached ERA404 about designing the user interface and user experience for their conceptual application, Koomol.

Koomol (from ‘cumulus’) is a single portal that indexes files from all connected virtual storage (Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud, etc.) and organizes them into one intuitively searchable interface. It solves the problem of trying to locate, organize, protect, and share personal documents that could be spread over a variety of internet services.

The challenge for the interface design was not only the organization of files (and groups of files, called ‘Koomolations’) across multiple cloud-storage services, but also how to indicate what was new, tagged, shared, and changed, each time the user logs in.

The resulting design grew to include two views (a list view, and a Pinboard-style grid view), with a notifications pane, an “explode” view to peek inside groups of files, and a host of searching, sorting, and filtering options to simplify asset maintenance.

Matrix Destination

The slogan for Matrix Destination is “Imagine All You Can Be,” and the event producers at LDJ Productions began the design for the multi-segmented educational event by imagining everything. One segment was born after a visit to Africa and witnessing the awe-inspiring phenomenon called “murmuration,” where massive flocks of birds fill the skies in a seemingly choreographed dance.

Producer David Steinberg approached ERA404 to animate what would become three synchronized high-definition videos—spanning three giant screens. The animation was accompanied by live orchestral musicians and ran as the backdrop for  runway fashion show. The 5+ minute piece was rendered at C2IT in Kansas City and ultimately became one of the highlights of the 3-day event.

Pantone Moods

ERA404 contacted Pantone about an idea to promote the new Pantone Goe System on Facebook. Within a month, over 1,000 Facebook users subscribed to “Pantone Moods,” and hundreds of thousands of status updates were published with Pantone color chips.

Hearts of Brooklyn

Red White and Bubbly’s Adam Goldstein hired ERA404 to design the labels for three new wines: The Hearts of Brooklyn Series. ERA404 previously designed the packaging for Brooklyn Wine Company’s Feliz Label Collection and Sparkling White, Altamira’s Sangiovese, and for Pangea’s Sparkling Natural Spring Water.

Illustration for the new pieces was provided by Ryan Seslow. The designs have been applied to packaging, posters, and billboards around Brooklyn.

Business Bankruptcies

BusinessBankruptcies.com noticed a decline in page rank on search engine results pages when Google changed their algorithm to take into consideration responsiveness. They hired ERA404 to redesign and rebuild their bankruptcies tracking database for mobile and tablet devices. At the same time, ERA404 worked with them to refresh the identity of the service, update the strategy to improve user experience and ease-of-use, and reorganize content to better promote their offering.

Their new site, which launched in September 2016, features location-based map listings of local bankruptcy cases, iconography, and infographics to make statistics more digestible.

The Herb Ritts Foundation

HERBRITTS.com features the largest collection of the late photographer’s work online, while offering the opportunity to explore every aspect of his career. Dozens of editorial examples, advertising tear sheets, book spreads, and museum installation photos mixed together demonstrate how Ritts’ work embedded itself into popular culture.

The site also features an interactive timeline of Herb Ritts’ life and visitors are able to see examples of Ritts’ directing work, including award-winning music videos and commercials. Further insight is offered into the Foundation’s history and mission: to advance the art of photography and support HIV/AIDS causes in a manner that reflects the spirit and values exemplified by Herb Ritts during his lifetime.

“ERA404 proved to be the best one-stop design studio. They take the time to understand their client’s needs, insure a strong web presence and provide unparalleled technical support.”
